Backroom Coup: Liverpool Appoint Double Scudetto-Winner Alejandro Rosalen as Goalkeeping Coach.

The backroom revolution under Andoni Iraola continues to take shape at Anfield. Liverpool have officially confirmed the appointment of Alejandro Rosalen as the club's new first-team goalkeeping coach. The 49-year-old Spaniard arrives on Merseyside with a stellar reputation and a wealth of elite European experience, making him a major addition to Iraola's newly structured coaching staff.

Rosalen directly replaces Xavi Valero, who has departed the club following the conclusion of his second spell with the Reds.

A Proven Winner from Napoli

Rosalen arrives in the Premier League fresh off a highly successful five-year tenure in Serie A with Napoli, where he served as goalkeeping coach from 2021 until this summer.

During his time in Naples, Rosalen was an integral part of the backroom setups that guided the club through one of its most dominant modern eras, contributing directly to two Scudetto titles:

  • 2022-23: Under Luciano Spalletti, ending Napoli's 33-year league title drought.
  • 2024-25: Reclaiming the Serie A crown in emphatic fashion under Antonio Conte.

His ability to adapt and maintain elite goalkeeping standards under different world-class tacticians including Spalletti and Conte, made him one of the most highly-rated specialized coaches in Italy.

A Wealth of Continental Experience

Beyond his silverware-laden stint with Napoli, the Spanish coach boasts an extensive résumé across Europe's top leagues:

  • ACF Fiorentina (2013/2021): Spent eight highly respected years in Florence, working under managers like Vincenzo Montella and Stefano Pioli.
  • Videoton FC (2012/2013): A single-season stint in the Hungarian top flight under Paulo Sousa.
  • Valencia CF: Cut his teeth and developed his core training philosophies inside the highly esteemed Valencia youth academy infrastructure.

Shaping the New Era at Anfield

With the squad assembling for the 2026/27 pre-season, Rosalens' immediate priority will be working closely with Alisson Becker and the rest of Liverpool's senior goalkeeping stable.

Bringing in a coach with a proven track record of winning domestic league titles is a massive coup for FSG. As Iraola continues to implement his aggressive, high-pressing tactical philosophy from the front, having a seasoned veteran like Rosalen structuring things from the back line gives the Reds an incredibly solid foundation heading into the new campaign.
