LONDON / MERSEYSIDE: Tottenham Hotspur have added Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo to their summer target list, but bringing the Dutch international to North London will require clearing a steep hurdle set by the Reds.
Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi is aggressively searching for attacking reinforcements following a rash of long-term injuries to key forward players. Gakpo—who is under contract at Anfield through 2030—has emerged as a major option under consideration.
Liverpool Transfer Condition
Liverpool have made their position clear regarding any potential departure for the 27-year-old winger:
- Replacement Non-Negotiable: Liverpool will not allow Gakpo to leave unless a suitable, incoming replacement is secured first.
- Independent of Barcola Deal: Reports indicate that even if Liverpool finalize their high-profile pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, that move alone does not grant Gakpo an automatic exit green light.
- High Financial Barrier: Tied down on a long-term contract, Gakpo would not come cheap. Liverpool hold full leverage and are under no pressure to sell to a Premier League rival without a substantial premium.
Spurs are prepared to spend big to bolster De Zerbi's frontline, but Liverpool's refusal to weaken their squad without an instant replacement through the door puts the ball firmly back in Tottenham's court to present a massive, push-the-button offer.
