GREEN LIGHT: Liverpool Clear the Way for Arne Slot’s Dutch National Team Move.

According to a major update from Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Liverpool have made a significant financial concession that paves the way for former manager Arne Slot to take over the Netherlands national team job without sacrificing his massive remaining payout.

The Gardening Leave Loophole

The Modern English Structure: Rather than paying out a massive, lump-sum severance package upon his dismissal, Liverpool chose a common modern English tactic: placing Slot on "inactive status" (gardening leave). This allows the club to distribute his salary in monthly installments until the end of his original contract period.

The Big Waiver: Normally, accepting a new managerial role immediately terminates these monthly gardening leave payouts from a former employer. However, De Telegraaf reports that Liverpool have actively cleared the way, agreeing not to revoke his compensation package if he reaches an agreement with the Dutch Football Association (KNVB).

The €30 Million Total Package

A Massive Financial Cushion: This agreement is a monumental win for Slot. Over his full three-year contract period with the Reds—which includes this final year where he is no longer at the helm—the total amount Slot is set to collect from Anfield reaches a staggering €30 million (£25.7m).

Next Steps: With Liverpool removing the ultimate financial barrier, the ball is entirely in the KNVB’s court to finalize personal terms with Slot to lead the Oranje into their next major international cycle.
